Canada is a
constitutional monarchy.
This means that the laws governing Canada
recognize
Queen Elizabeth II
as the formal Head of State.
All federal laws are made in the Queen's name.
She also performs many important ceremonial duties when visiting Canada.
When her father died in 1952, Elizabeth became Head of the Commonwealth Nations. In 2012, these nations including Canada will celebrate sixty years of Elizabeth's reign.
London will pay tribute to Her Majesty at a special concert to be held in Victoria Park on Sunday 3 June 2012. Details to follow.
