Canada Day 2016

Londoners gathered in Harris Park, at the forks of the Askunessippi (Thames River), to celebrate Canada’s 149th anniversary of confederation.

The festivities began with a First Nations gathering featuring Naahii. A parade including the RCMP and 1st Hussars cavalry troop; and with flag parties from HMCS Prevost and Scouts Canada led the procession to the stage.

Julia Haggarty opened the ceremony with a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem, then a perfectly timed flypast by the Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team. Masters of Ceremony, Randy Warden and Dieufert Bellot maintained the tight schedule.

Londoner Tony Dagnone, CM, was presiding officer for a Citizenship ceremony for sixty new Canadians.

Overall, more than 40,000 attended London’s municipal Canada Day event that also included a spectacular fireworks display.
